HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Hinsdale man who was reported missing for over a week was found dead in the Ashuelot River late Monday morning.
Scott Plante, 62, was reported missing by his roommate last Wednesday, April 23rd, after the Hinsdale Police Department says she became worried when she hadn’t heard from him since April 16th. The roommate located Plante’s vehicle on Main Street at the Millstream Riverfront Park last Wednesday and contacted police to file the missing person’s report.
Law enforcement and first responders searched within a one-mile radius from where Plante’s vehicle was found, including parts of the Ashuelot River by boat and by utilizing divers.
The Hinsdale Police Department said it had verifiable information that Plante was seen on April 17th parking his vehicle at the Millstream Riverfront Park, where he exited the vehicle just before 9 a.m. and walked towards the river without coming back into view of surveillance footage.
With that, first responders focused their efforts in and around the Ashuelot River.
New Hampshire Fish and Game continued to conduct searches of the river by boat at about 9:45 Monday morning and located a body at about 11:10 a.m. within the river, approximately one and a half miles from where Plante was last seen walking towards the river’s edge.
The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol and the State Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and positively identified the body as Plante. The Silver Alert issued by NHSP on Saturday was canceled at about 12:30 Monday afternoon.
Plante’s cause of death has not been determined and remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding Plante that may be helpful to investigators should contact NHSP Marine Patrol Sergeant Seth Alie at 603-227-2117.
