KEENE, N.H. – (MyKeeneNow) Five were hurt in a serious car accident on Route 9 at Sullivan Road in Keene this morning.
Emergency crews responded to the incident shortly before 8:40 a.m. The crash, which involved three vehicles, resulted in extensive damage, with two cars being declared total losses by the Keene Fire Department.
A preliminary investigation by the Keene Police Department revealed that a Nissan Frontier driven by Francis Desjardins, 70, of Walpole, collided with a Mazda Miata operated by Peter Morin, 72, of Surry, according to a news release. Both vehicles were heading east when they crashed, causing Morin’s car to veer into the westbound lane, where it struck a 1937 Ford roadster driven by Randy Gooklin, 63, of North Berwick, Maine.
The Keene Fire Department dispatched four ambulances to the scene, with additional support from two County EMS ambulances.
Four people were taken by ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center’s emergency department, while a fifth was taken to the helipad at the Keene hospital before being taken for medical treatment by a Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Advanced Response Team helicopter, the release said.
Responders included Keene Fire and Police Departments, NH DOT, New Hampshire State Police, and the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department.
The Keene Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Detective/Lieutenant Chidester or Detective Lippincott at 357-9813.
