(MyKeeneNow) New Hampshire’s nonprofits and religious organizations are set to receive a significant boost in security funding, thanks to a federal grant program aimed at enhancing safety in these vulnerable spaces.
The state’s congressional delegation, led by Senator Maggie Hassan, announced that $2.4 million in grants has been allocated to New Hampshire under the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, according to a news release. This funding will go toward bolstering security measures for nonprofits, including houses of worship, to protect against potential threats.
The program, which has seen expanded funding through Senator Hassan’s efforts, is designed to help smaller states like New Hampshire, not just major cities, access crucial resources. “Granite Staters deserve to feel safe when attending a church service or volunteering at a local nonprofit,” Senator Hassan said in a statement, highlighting the role these organizations play in local communities.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen echoed the sentiment, noting the troubling rise in violence targeting places of worship, the release said.
Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas also voiced their support, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that nonprofit spaces can operate securely. “Granite Staters shouldn’t have to worry about their safety when volunteering or visiting these spaces,” Kuster said, while Pappas added that the funding would help ensure faith-based organizations and nonprofits have the resources they need to enhance security.
Senator Hassan has a history of supporting increased funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, and her work in Congress has led to its expansion. In addition to securing more funding, she co-authored the bipartisan Pray Safe Act, which aims to provide faith-based organizations with access to security information, training opportunities, and best practices to keep their communities safe.
