KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A familiar face is taking the reins at the Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD). Benée Hershon, who has played a key role in the district’s outreach and engagement efforts since 2021, officially stepped into the role of District Manager on April 14.
Hershon’s promotion marks a significant moment for the CCCD, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. During her time with the organization, she helped launch new initiatives like the popular Pollinator Palooza event and played a central role in shaping the NH Conservation Districts Climate Resilience Grant. She most recently served as community engagement director.
Originally from the Northeast, Hershon holds a degree in environmental studies from Brandeis University and a certificate in conservation, biodiversity, and Society from the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation. Her previous experience includes managing a community engagement farm in Massachusetts through the TerraCorps program, and hands-on agricultural work on both vegetable and livestock farms along the East Coast. She currently serves on the board of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Hampshire and is a past president of the state’s Conservation District Employees Association.
Hershon replaces Amanda Littleton, who recently stepped down and leaves May 1 after nearly two decades at the Cheshire County Conservation District. Littleton will take on a new role as executive director of the Monadnock Conservancy.
The CCCD offers a variety of programs, grants, and educational workshops that support healthy soils, clean water, and sustainable agriculture.
