WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Peterborough man is dead following a crash in Winchester Monday morning.
According to a news release from the Winchester Police Department, first responders were called to the area of the Village Laundromat on Manning Hill Road a couple of minutes before 10:00 Monday morning on a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle crash with entrapment.
Units arrived on scene to find a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek in the middle of the southbound lane with heavy damage and a 2014 Ford Escape on its side against a utility pole also heavily damaged. The two occupants of the Subaru were out of the vehicle, but the driver of the Ford was entrapped inside the vehicle.
The driver of the Ford only identified as an 83-year-old Peterborough man was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was air-lifted to UMass Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
The occupants of the Subaru, a 30-year-old Keene Resident and one-year-old child were taken to Cheshire Medical Center by Cheshire EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
It remains unclear exactly what caused the accident, but Winchester Police Chief David Rice said police believe it was the result of one of the drivers attempting to pass the other.
A section of Route 10 was closed in both directions for about an hour and half as crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
