KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – One man was seriously injured in a crash in Antrim early Thursday morning.
Antrim Fire and Ambulance responded to a reported crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian near 355 Keene Road (Route 9) at 4:00 Thursday morning.
First responders found that a vehicle heading westbound had swerved to avoid a deer, struck a guardrail, and came to a final rest in the middle of the two travel lanes. As the driver, who fire officials did not identify, exited the vehicle, it was struck from behind by another vehicle also traveling westbound.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles. The driver of the second vehicle, who also was not identified, was evaluated at the scene but refused transport to the hospital. The DHART helicopter was put on standby but later cancelled as the driver of the first vehicle was transported by ground to Concord Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the crash, and that section of Route 9 was closed for some time as crews worked to clear the scene.
