HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Emergency crews responded Wednesday afternoon to a serious crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer on Canal Street near NH-119 and Lost Road in Hinsdale.

The crash, reported around 2:25 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer unit that rolled over, causing a fuel spill from its saddle tank. Shortly after 3 p.m., traffic was reduced to one lane alternating through the area.

Keene’s hazardous materials team was requested to assist with the fuel spill cleanup. The extent of injuries remains unknown at this time.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays as the cleanup and investigation continue.

Update:

According to responding officials, the tractor-trailer was carrying asbestos-contaminated waste from a nearby demolition site when the rollover occurred. The incident happened as the truck attempted to turn into a driveway along Canal Street and its rear tires slipped off the edge of Hog Tongue Brook, causing it to overturn.

No injuries were reported, and none of the asbestos-contaminated material entered the water.
