SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) At the Monadnock Humane Society, this week’s featured pet is Carl, also known as Salem, a shy but loving cat searching for a patient and understanding home.
Carl has been at the shelter for 245 days, making him the longest resident among the cats. He originally came from a hoarding situation and later lost his home when he no longer fit his owner’s lifestyle. The shelter environment has been overwhelming for him, and he spends most of his time in his bed, watching and waiting for the right person to come along.
Carl feels safest with other cats and would thrive in a home with calm, confident feline companions. He prefers a quiet, predictable environment with cozy hiding spots where he can feel secure. While earning his trust may take time, patience and Churu treats are the way to his heart.
Although Carl is a gentle soul, sudden movements can startle him, and he may swat out of fear. He needs an adopter who understands shy “spirit” cats and is willing to give him space and love on his own terms.
If you have experience with timid cats and a calm, quiet home, Carl may be the perfect companion for you. Visit the Monadnock Humane Society during open hours Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or call Adoption & Foster Care Coordinator Nicole Benn at 354-4004 to schedule an appointment. Immediate assistance is available by calling the adoption desk at 352-9011.
