CANDIA, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Two Peterborough residents survived a multi-vehicle crash on Route 101 that left three dead Saturday.
Timothy McMahon, 57, and Kelly McMahon, 18, were traveling in a 2018 Nissan Sentra when a 2010 Toyota Tundra, speeding eastbound, side-swiped their vehicle before crossing the median and crashing head-on into a westbound 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
They both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester as a precaution, according to a news release.
The drivers of the Toyota Tundra and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer were pronounced dead at the scene, N.H. State Police said. A passenger in the Jeep, who was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, also died later that day. Authorities are withholding the identities of the deceased pending notification of their families.
The crash caused significant disruptions on Route 101, with the highway closed for several hours while state police and other emergency responders investigated the scene. The westbound lanes remained shut down for approximately four hours, while eastbound lanes reopened earlier.
State police believe speed played a role in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. They are urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Trooper Will Bohnenberger at 223-4381 or via email at William.F.Bohnenberger@dos.nh.gov.
