KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene’s Planning, Licenses, and Development (PLD) Committee will meet tonight at City Hall.

Among the key items on the agenda is a sign code amendment request from Mayor Jay Kahn. The proposal seeks to allow blade signs (a vertical sign mounted to a building or architectural surface at an angle perpendicular to the flow of traffic, typically double-sided) in industrial zones, a practice currently prohibited. Mayor Kahn has expressed that lifting the ban could aid manufacturers in recruiting workers by enhancing their visibility and appeal.

The committee will also consider a proposal to increase allowable building heights in the Commerce District. The plan aims to stimulate housing development by permitting taller buildings, while still requiring commercial spaces on the ground floor. The proposed change would allow residential units behind these commercial areas, offering greater flexibility for mixed-use development.

During a prior public hearing on the building height proposal, city planner Evan Clements explained that increasing height limits could promote both economic growth and residential opportunities in the district.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
