LONDONDERRY, VT (MyKeeneNow) Vermont State Police have released the name of the woman killed in a suspicious incident in southern Vermont, confirming she was 31-year-old Angelica Barbour of Brattleboro.

An autopsy conducted Sunday at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington found that Barbour died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Investigators said she was not shot, despite early reports suggesting a gunshot wound. The official manner of death has not yet been determined.

Detectives believe Barbour was injured on Vermont Route 11 near the intersection with Mansfield Lane in Londonderry. Authorities said a person who had been taken into custody by Bennington police in connection with the case has since been released.

The investigation began Friday afternoon, when Barbour was dropped off at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington with severe injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police quickly determined she had not been hurt there and shifted the case to state investigators.

Troopers secured a property along Route 11 in Londonderry, which was closed for several hours Friday evening as evidence was collected.

The Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division, and Victim Services Unit are all involved in the ongoing case.
