PETERBOROUGH, N.H (MyKeeneNow) – One man is in custody following an incident at a Peterborough apartment building.

According to a news release from the Peterborough Police Department, officers were called to the Prescott Hill Apartments around 10:40 Friday night on a reported domestic violence disturbance in progress. Responding officers determined that an assault had occurred and the suspect was possibly still inside the apartment and armed with a knife.

The apartment was cleared and police determined the suspect, identified as Jerrid Parent, 32, of Peterborough, had fled into the woods behind the apartment complex.

Police K9 Queso immediately picked up a track and lead officers directly to Parent, who was lying behind a rock and not complying with commands.

Parent eventually stood up and pulled an object from a sheath on his right hip before charging towards the officers. K9 Queso was able to stop Parent and knock him to the ground, and Parent struck K9 Queso repeatedly before he was taken into custody.

Parent was evaluated by the Peterborough Ambulance and refused transport to the hospital. He was transported to the Valley Street jail and held on preventative detention. He’s facing three charges of Domestic Violence – Simple Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, three counts of Criminal Threatening, and a felony charge of Interference with Police Dogs. He also had an electronic bench warrant out for his arrest

Police Chief Scott Guinard noted that K9 Queso was not injured in the incident, along with any of the responding officers, and Parent.
