KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Preliminary water tests following Wednesday’s major water main break in Keene have come back clean, showing no presence of harmful bacteria. However, the city must wait for a second round of test results before the state will allow the current boil-water advisory to be lifted.

The confirmatory samples were submitted Friday afternoon, and results are expected by approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. Until then, the advisory will remain in effect, and residents are urged to continue boiling tap water before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.

The advisory was issued after a water main ruptured near the intersection of Water and Grove Streets Wednesday evening, leading to a significant drop in pressure throughout the city’s central neighborhoods and extending into North Swanzey. State guidelines require two consecutive days of satisfactory test results before lifting any advisory issued in such circumstances.

City officials said they will issue an immediate update as soon as the final test results are available on Saturday.
