RINDGE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Peterborough Fire & Rescue will take over ambulance transportation services for the Town of Rindge beginning Jan. 1, 2027, following a months-long review of emergency medical service options.

The town and Rindge Fire Department evaluated how ambulance services are currently delivered, as well as response capabilities, communications, operational requirements and financial and contractual considerations, according to a news release.

A committee made up of Rindge Fire Chief Robert J. Faas Jr., the department’s deputy chief of EMS and four residents reviewed four emergency medical service providers, including the town’s current provider, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, the release said.

The committee focused primarily on the operational and service aspects of the proposals. The Board of Selectmen and town administrator separately considered financial and contractual factors before selecting Peterborough Fire & Rescue.

Under the new arrangement, Rindge Fire Department will continue responding to medical emergencies and providing non-transport medical care, including treatment at the Advanced Life Support level. Peterborough Fire & Rescue will handle ambulance transportation when patients need to be taken to a medical facility.

Town officials emphasized that the change will not end Rindge Fire Department’s involvement in emergency medical services. Fire personnel will continue to respond to 911 medical calls, begin patient treatment and coordinate care with the transporting ambulance crew.

The departments are expected to work together on training, communications and operational coordination as part of the new regional arrangement.

Officials said preparations will take place ahead of the Jan. 1 transition to coordinate the change with residents, dispatch centers, hospitals and emergency responders.

Rindge Fire Department will also continue reviewing the community’s EMS needs while working with Peterborough Fire & Rescue and other regional partners.

Further details about the transition and implementation of Peterborough Fire & Rescue’s ambulance transportation service will be released as plans are finalized.
