(MyKeeneNow) – Ronald P. “Ron” “Ronnie” Amadon, 92, a lifelong resident and community servant with the City of Keene, died Wednesday, July 24, at Alpine Healthcare Center in Keene following a period of failing health.

He was born April 1, 1932, son of Fred P. and Flora (Schultz) Amadon.

He was a 1950 graduate of Keene High School.

Following his graduation, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War from July 25, 1950 until his honorable discharge on May 20, 1954. He was awarded a letter of commendation for his outstanding performance of duty aboard ship. This letter was presented to Ronald at the Commanding Officer’s Meritorious Mast. He also received the Korean Service Ribbon with five stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Ron married the love of his life, Esther M. (Campbell), in 1953. Together they raised their family and created many wonderful memories together for 59 years, until Esther’s passing in 2012.

Ronald served his community for 21 years with the City of Keene as a firefighter with the Keene Fire Department. At the time of his retirement, he was the acting deputy fire chief for the department.

An accomplished woodworker, he made furniture, wooden toys, and cabinetry, and was as a master carpenter, skillfully remodeling homes for many in the community.

He enjoyed watching TV, especially westerns with “Gunsmoke” being one of his favorites. Family meant the world to Ron, and taking long rides with Esther brought him great joy.

Ronald is survived by his daughter, Brenda S. Amadon of Keene; his granddaughter; his great-granddaughter, Athena Nott of Epping; his sister, Judy Thompson, of Keene; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. A son, Gary W. Amadon in 2009, and a sister, Marlene Hunt, and two brothers, Bruce Amadon and Kenneth Amadon, predeceased him.

Fire department honors will be bestowed to Ron on Friday, Aug. 9, |starting with a procession at 10:30 a.m. from the Foley Funeral Home to the Keene Central Fire Station, with the procession continuing to the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene, for a graveside service with Navy honors at 11 a.m. There are no public calling hours.
