MONADNOCK REGION, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Voters in both the Monadnock Regional School District and the Keene School District (SAU 29) will see a mix of contested races and uncontested seats on the ballot this March following last week’s filing deadlines.
In the Monadnock Regional School District, Bill Hutwelker has filed to run for school district moderator. Six candidates are seeking seats on the school board, including Lisa Steadman of Troy; Betty Tatro and Kristen Noonan, both of Swanzey; Edmond Laplante of Richmond; Jeffrey Cesaitis of Fitzwilliam; and Christina Pierce of Fitzwilliam, who is running for a one-year term.
Four candidates have filed for three-year terms on the district’s budget committee: Wayne Lechlider and Edward Sheldon of Swanzey, Nancy Carney of Fitzwilliam, and Steven Sawyer of Troy. Three budget committee seats remain open, including three-year terms representing Roxbury and Richmond and a one-year term representing Fitzwilliam.
In the Keene School District, four candidates are competing for three three-year seats on the school board. Those candidates are Jason Washer, Jennifer Friedman, Heather Gilligan, and Casey Schmidl-Gagne. The races for the two-year school board seat, district clerk, and district moderator are uncontested, with Russell Denney, Katelyn Robinson, and Kathleen O’Donnell, respectively, running unopposed.
Several town school districts within SAU 29 also have candidates filed for local offices. In Chesterfield, Siena Fleischer and Amy Treat are running for two three-year school board seats, while Gary Winn has filed for moderator and Fran Shippee for clerk and treasurer. Harrisville voters will see John Knight running for school board, Phillip H. Miner for moderator, Jillian M. Miner for clerk, and Kathryn Miner for treasurer. In Marlborough, Andrew Felegara and Jeffrey B. Miller are seeking school board seats, with Kayla Wainio running for clerk. Marlow has a contested school board race between Jeremy Mickelson and Christie Smith, while the moderator position remains vacant. Johanna Mackenzie has filed for school board in Nelson, and in Westmoreland, Kevin Powell and Candace St. John are running for school board, with Paul Berch for moderator, Michael Hinesley for clerk, and Deborah Hatt for treasurer.
Keene voters will consider the proposed school budget along with the contested races. The district’s deliberative session is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Keene High School auditorium.
