(MyKeeneNow) Officials from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Gray, Maine, have issued an alert for enhanced severe weather conditions expected this Sunday in New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) advises residents and visitors to take precautionary measures ahead of potential severe storms. Predictions include the possibility of damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, hail, and flash flooding.
Director Robert Buxton of HSEM emphasized preparedness: “Ensure your family emergency plan is up-to-date and that your emergency kit includes essential documents and supplies.”
According to forecasts, wind speeds could exceed 70 mph, with a 10% risk of tornadoes across the state as indicated by the Storm Prediction Center.
Campers are urged to stay informed about changing conditions and should be ready to move to higher ground immediately in case of flooding. They should also have contingency plans for alternative shelter if necessary.
Director Buxton provided the following safety tips:
- Stay informed through multiple weather alert systems. Monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local media. Utilize NH Alerts and download the Genasys Protect app for emergency notifications.
- In the event of flooding, move to higher ground immediately. Even shallow water can be hazardous.
- While driving, remember, “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads.
- Prepare your property by securing loose items and trimming trees prone to falling.
- Follow guidance from local authorities and be ready to evacuate safely if instructed.
