HINSDALE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – One man is in the hospital following an incident in Hinsdale Tuesday.
According to a news release from the Hinsdale Police Department, officers were called to a home on Plain Road on a report of CPR in progress on a toddler who may have drowned. Despite life saving measures, the child did not survive.
Late Tuesday morning police responded to the same home where an unidentified 37-year-old male was distraught, barricaded, and threatening self-harm with a firearm, according to the news release.
Residents in the area were evacuated and a section of Plain Road was closed for several hours as authorities from multiple agencies responded and attempted to resolve the situation safely.
Ultimately police say the man did sustain a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition.
No further information will be released.
Hinsdale police were assisted by Brattleboro VT Police, the Cheshire County Sheriffs Office, Keene Police, Winchester Police, the New Hampshire State Police SWAT team, Greenfield MA Police, the Hinsdale Fire Department, and Rescue Inc.

An evacuation order for residents in Hinsdale on a section of Plain Road has been lifted and the road has reopened.
There was a heavy police presence at a home on Plain Road for a reported mental health crisis late Tuesday morning and into the afternoon.
Police closed Plain Road to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Cottage Street and Monument Road as the incident unfolded. As of 2:45 Tuesday afternoon the evacuation order has been lifted, but the road remained closed for another 25 minutes. As of 3:10, it had reopened.
The Keene Police Department assisted on scene with the armored bearcat vehicle, which witnesses say left the scene around 2:15 Tuesday afternoon, along with officers from the Winchester, Chesterfield, and Brattleboro Police Departments, New Hampshire State Police, and Rescue Inc.
Police are not expected to release any further information on the exact nature of the incident. This page will be updated as other information becomes available.

The initial report appears as a medical call on the fire mutual aid log shortly after 10:15 Tuesday morning. Scanner activity indicated there were shots fired, but police cannot be reached at this point to confirm.
Neighbors have confirmed they’ve been told to evacuate to the Hinsdale Community Center on Main Street.
