KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Beth Daniels, CEO of Southwestern Community Services, joined Dan Mitchell Tuesday on his morning radio program on WKBK to discuss the devastating aftermath of a water pipe break at Marlborough Homes, a senior housing facility in Marlborough.
The incident, which occurred Friday afternoon, involved a major pipe feeding the sprinkler system, causing widespread flooding that damaged all 26 apartments in the two-story building. “Every apartment. It was a complete—every wall, every floor, every ceiling. It was free-flowing water,” Daniels explained during the interview.
The flooding forced the evacuation of all residents, who have since been relocated to temporary accommodations in hotels and shelters. Daniels shared that it could take several months before the facility is habitable again, as extensive repairs, including addressing mold and structural issues, are necessary. “I would put it at several months is what we’re aiming for at this time,” she said.
Southwestern Community Services, which operates Marlborough Homes, has taken the lead in coordinating the emergency response. With help from the Marlborough Fire Department and other local organizations, residents were safely evacuated and provided with temporary shelter, food, and essentials.
Daniels highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to support displaced residents, acting as a liaison to provide access to necessary goods and coordinating temporary housing. However, she emphasized the need for community support during this crisis. “We’ve had to secure the building itself, but our main priority really has to be the residents,” she said.
Southwestern Community Services is actively seeking donations to assist with temporary housing, meals, and essentials for the affected seniors. Financial contributions, gift cards, and offers of housing are among the most needed resources. “We’ll get through this—we always do,” Daniels assured listeners, but acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting the strain on resources from other ongoing emergency responses.
The Marlborough Homes facility, described by Daniels as “one of our jewels,” was a source of pride for the organization and the community.
