CHESHIRE COUNTY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Residents in Cheshire County should brace for powerful winds throughout Monday and into early Tuesday morning, as the National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning today through 1 a.m.

Winds out of the west are expected to range between 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service warns that damaging winds could bring down trees and power lines, potentially causing additional power outages. Tree branches may also fall, creating hazardous road conditions. Blowing and drifting snow could further complicate travel. Drivers are urged to exercise caution due to wind gusts and debris on roadways.

Residents are advised to remain in the lower levels of their homes during the storm, avoid windows, and watch for falling debris. Those who must travel should use extreme caution.

Following this past weekend’s ice storm, Eversource crews have been working to restore power across the region.

According to William Hinkle, external communications director for Eversource, the company has already restored service to approximately 575 customers in the Monadnock region, with 97 customers still without power as of Monday morning. The outages were primarily caused by ice-laden tree limbs falling onto power lines.

“With strong winds in the forecast today and trees already weakened by snow and ice, additional outages are possible,” said Hinkle. “Our crews will continue working around the clock until all customers who lose power are restored.”

Eversource is urging residents to prepare for possible outages by charging electronic devices, securing outdoor objects, and having an emergency plan in place. Residents should report outages to Eversource and avoid any downed power lines.
