BRATTLEBORO, V.T. (MyKeeneNow) – A Burlington, Vermont man is facing charges following a string of thefts in Brattleboro.
The Brattleboro Police Department has received numerous reports of thefts from motor vehicles over the last several weeks, according to a news release.
Based on the complaints police were able to identify Yesi Garelnabi, 33, of Burlington as a suspect.
Gerelnabi was located walking on South Main Street on Saturday December 28th, but he was able to evade police. He was located again around 10:45 the following morning walking on Canal Street and police questioned him about the recent thefts.
Gerelnabi also had an active arrest warrant from Chittenden County, so he was taken into custody and found to be in possession of two debit cards that had been stolen the night prior. At that point he was charged with receiving stolen property, along with charges for being in possession of a backpack that was stolen on December 12th, and a separate incident where he allegedly trespassed into a motor vehicle on December 29th. He was released with a pair of citations ordering him to appear in court in February.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on December 30th Brattleboro Police received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Ledgewood Heights. Officers investigated and based on surveillance footage identified Gerelnabi as the suspect once again.
Police located and arrested Gerelnabi on charges of petit larceny and unlawful trespass. He was held in lieu of $200 bail and scheduled to appear in court on New Year’s Eve.
