KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Ted McGreer joined Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio’s Good Morning show today to celebrate 25 years of Ted’s Shoe and Sport on Main Street in Keene.

Since opening Ted’s Shoe and Sport in 1999, McGreer has seen the evolution of Main Street firsthand, from the absence of big-box stores to the rise of online shopping. Against all odds, his locally owned business has thrived, offering a personalized shopping experience that keeps customers coming back.

To mark the occasion, Ted’s Shoe and Sport is hosting a special celebration Saturday, March 29, with a grand prize giveaway: a $1,500 travel voucher. While it’s humorously marketed as “dinner for two in Hawaii,” the voucher can be used for any travel expenses. No purchase is necessary to enter—anyone who stops by the store on the anniversary day will receive a scratch ticket with a chance to win various prizes, including discounts and free socks from Hoka, one of the store’s most popular brands.

Reflecting on his journey, McGreer shared how his business began as a sporting goods store, originally selling snowboards and other equipment. Over time, the store evolved into a specialty footwear destination, focusing on what he calls “solution footwear.” Today, more than half of his business comes from customers seeking shoes that provide medical support, often recommended by local podiatrists, physical therapists, and chiropractors.

McGreer credits his success not only to his dedicated team but also to the strong community ties he has built over the years. With a deep-rooted passion for fitness and local engagement, he has been a vocal advocate for downtown businesses, a supporter of youth athletic programs, and a consistent sponsor of local races like the DeMar Marathon. His store’s commitment to giving back is reflected in its charitable focus on youth, fitness, and health, including its involvement in programs such as the Rotary Club sneaker project.

Beyond retail, McGreer has ventured into product development, creating his own line of orthotics, socks, and even an odor-fighting shoe spray—a necessity he recognized firsthand as a father of soccer-playing daughters. His entrepreneurial drive, combined with a hands-on approach to training his staff (each employee undergoes 200 hours of training before working on the floor), ensures that Ted’s Shoe and Sport continues to offer a level of customer service unmatched by online retailers.

As he celebrates 25 years in business, McGreer remains grateful for the Keene community’s unwavering support. His enthusiasm for downtown’s future remains strong, as he continues to champion local businesses and encourage collaboration. While he jokes that running for mayor isn’t in the cards, his leadership and dedication to the city are undeniable. Here’s to another 25 years of success for Ted’s Shoe and Sport!
