CHESTERFIELD, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a crash while riding an ATV on private land in Chesterfield.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on June 22, when Ryan Mark attempted to ride over a steep jump and was thrown from the vehicle. According to officials, he landed hard on the downhill side of the slope and sustained injuries in the fall.

Friends nearby heard his calls for help and were first on the scene, providing aid and contacting emergency services. Chesterfield Fire and Ambulance crews, New Hampshire State Police, and a Conservation Officer with NH Fish and Game responded to assist. Mark was transported to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately released.

Authorities say Mark was riding alone at the time of the crash.

As summer recreation ramps up, Fish and Game officials are urging off-highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) users to stay within their skill levels and to always wear proper safety gear when riding.
