PROVIDENCE, R.I. (MyKeeneNow) Three Keene State College student-athletes honored by the Little East Conference for their achievements accomplished for the week of 11/3-11/9.
Women’s Basketball
Junior guard Brynn Rautiola (Rindge, N.H.) was named the LEC Player of the Week for the opening week of women’s basketball awards from her performance in the Owls’ season-opening 89-65 win over Colby-Sawyer College. Rautiola tallied a game-high 30 points in just 25 minutes on the day shooting 11-18 (61.1 percent) from the field, 6-10 (60 percent) from three, and a perfect 2-2 at the line. Rautiola also grabbed seven rebounds, the second-most in the contest, from three offensive rebounds and four defensive rebounds, to go with three assists and a steal. Rautiola’s 30 points moves her to just nine points away from becoming the 21st member of the program’s 1,000-point club.
Freshman forward/guard Sydney Cassidy (Somers, Conn.) was named the LEC Rookie of the Week from her performance in her first collegiate game for the Owls. In her collegiate debut, Cassidy scored 12 points in only 17 minutes off 5-7 (71.4 percent) from the field, and 1-1 from three to go with a free throw made. Cassidy also grabbed five boards, two on offense and three on defense in the win.
Rautiola, Cassidy, and the Owls return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. as the Owls host New England College for KSC’s home opener for the season.
Women’s Ice Hockey
Sophomore goaltender Ai Chung (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan) was named the LEC Goaltender of the Week to become the first member of both the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs to earn a weekly LEC award in KSC history. Chung finished the weekend slate of two games with 103 saves as she made 35 saves in the Owls’ first LEC game in program history, in which she picked up the Owls’ first conference win in program history with the 2-1 victory with a .972 SV percent. In the Owls next game against Norwich University, who was receiving votes in the top-15 of the USHCO polls, Chung made a program-record 68 saves in the contest to finish the week with a .932 SV percent.
Chung and the Owls return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. at New England College for their next contest.
