BRATTLEBORO, VT (MyKeeneNow) A traffic stop in Brattleboro led to the arrest of two Connecticut residents and criminal charges against two other people, after Vermont State Police say troopers found about 196 bags of suspected fentanyl and heroin inside a vehicle.

A trooper assigned to the Westminster Barracks stopped the vehicle on Canal Street at about 5:14 p.m. Monday, according to police.

 

During a search, troopers found the suspected drugs. Police said their investigation determined that the driver, 20-year-old Alex Raymond of Keene, and a passenger, 67-year-old Wayne Griffis of Brattleboro, provided false information to law enforcement.

Two other passengers, 30-year-old Lorenzo Ward of Higganum, Connecticut, and 26-year-old Maria Saez of Madison, Connecticut, were charged with fentanyl trafficking, possession of two or more grams of heroin, providing false information to police and conspiracy.

All four people were taken to the Westminster Barracks for processing.

Ward and Saez were lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility. They were each issued criminal citations to appear in Windham County Superior Court’s Criminal Division at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Bail was set at $10,000 for Ward and $5,000 for Saez.

Raymond and Griffis were also issued citations and are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m.
