KEENE, N.H (MyKeenNow) – Two familiar names earned enough write-in votes in Keene’s Municipal Primary Election Tuesday to appear on the general ballot next month.
There were no contested races in the primary and all registered candidates are advancing to the general election.
For Councilor At-Large seven candidates registered to fill five available seats; incumbent Randy Filiault, current Ward 2 councilor Mitch Greenwald, Sam Jackson, Robert Johnson, Steven Lindsey, Laura Ruttle-Miller, and Michele Chalice. Emily Benson who initially filed to run later pulled out of the race, but her name still appeared on the ballot.
Two current At-Large Councilors who were not seeking re-election, Kate Bosley and Bettina Chadbourne, each received enough write-in votes to appear on the general ballot, earning 62 and 80 write-ins respectively,
The mayoral race is a rematch of the 2023 election between current Mayor Jay Kahn and Bradford Hutchinson. In Tuesday’s primary Kahn earned 1,004 votes, while Hutchinson earned 115.
For ward councilors, Jacob Favolise is running to finish out the remainder of his term representing Ward 1 after he replaced former councilor Raleigh Ormerod last year. Councilor Kris Roberts is running for reelection of his seat in Ward 1 as well. In Ward 2 current At-Large councilor Ed Haas is running to fill the seat being vacated by Greenwald as he runs for At-Large. Ward 3 Councilor Andrew Madison is not seeking reelection, and Molly Ellis and John Schmitt are both running to fill his seat. Ellis earned 221 votes while Schmitt earned 23. In Ward 4 Councilor Catherine “Catt” Workman is running for reelection, and in Ward 5 newcomer Shane Brown is challenging incumbent Phil Jones. Brown earned 61 votes while Jones earned 180.
The Municipal General Election is set for November 4th, and the ballot will include Election Official positions including Ward Moderator, Ward Clerk, Checklist Supervisor, and Selectman. Polls that day will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
