KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Vermont man is facing charges after leading area police on a pursuit.
On Monday a Keene Police Officer working a road construction detail at the time recognized a stolen 2011 Volvo XC60 traveling west on Route 101 in the area of Optical Avenue, according to a news release. The Officer attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver, identified as Robert Dragon, 34, of Morristown Vermont, failed to stop, fleeing west on Route 101 and Route 9 at a high rate of speed.
Keene Police pursued Dragon into Chesterfield where he stopped on Horseshoe Road, then rammed a Keene Police cruiser as officers approached before attempting to drive off-road. The vehicle got stuck in the snow and Dragon fled on foot.
Dragon was eventually taken into custody and is being held in preventative detention at the Cheshire County House of Corrections pending arraignment on Tuesday. He’s facing several charges including reckless conduct and receiving stolen property, both felonies, disobeying an officer, reckless driving, operating after suspension, and resisting arrest, along with being a fugitive from justice based on warrants from the State of Vermont.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues. Anyone with further information about Dragon should contact Officer Tyler Coppo of the Keene Police Department at 603-357-9813.
The Chesterfield Police Department, New Hampshire State Police, and the Cheshire County Sheriff’s office assisted Keene Police.
