KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneN0w) Keene police say officers were attempting to serve a warrant on West Street around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, shortly before a standoff that ended with a man being fatally shot by law enforcement.

According to the department, the warrant service was connected to the multi-hour incident that followed, though the police log did not specify the type of warrant or who it involved.

Officers reported that the situation began after they stopped a vehicle in the TD Bank parking lot. A man inside the vehicle was armed, and a woman was also present. Police closed sections of West Street and Gilbo Avenue as additional personnel responded.

Police said the woman exited the vehicle at about 5:30 p.m., but the armed man refused to surrender. At approximately 8 p.m., multiple shots were fired, and the man was struck. He died from his injuries at the scene.

Keene police said the incident remains under investigation in coordination with state authorities.
