WESTMORELAND, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Westmoreland man has been charged in connection with a three-vehicle collision on Route 9 earlier this summer that left seven people injured.
Keene police say 20-year-old Cesar Alexis Medina was driving eastbound near Chesterfield Hill on August 17 when his car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle. A westbound motorcyclist then crashed while attempting to avoid the wreck.
Following an investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Medina on four counts of vehicular assault. He was taken into custody and later released on personal recognizance bail. Medina is scheduled to appear in the 8th Circuit Court in Keene on October 6.
The crash, which occurred just after 10:30 a.m., prompted a large emergency response. Keene fire crews declared a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident, bringing in multiple mutual aid units and air medical transport.
Two patients were taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, four to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, and one person was flown by DHART helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. One occupant had to be freed from a vehicle by firefighters, but all patients were conscious and breathing at the scene.
Police say both cars involved were totaled in the collision. The condition of the motorcycle was not immediately known.
