WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A Winchester resident is facing serious charges following allegations of inappropriate online interactions with a minor.
New Hampshire State Police arrested 47-year-old Travus S. Barnes Tuesday after a warrant was issued in connection with the investigation. Barnes, who has a prior conviction for sexual assault in 2014, is a registered sex offender in the state.
The investigation, led by the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, began on July 23, when authorities received a report that Barnes had been using Snapchat, a popular social media platform, to engage in inappropriate communication with a minor under the age of 16.
Barnes has been charged with multiple felonies, including endangering the welfare of a child and failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements. He was taken into custody with assistance from the Winchester Police Department and was slated to be arraigned in Keene District Court on Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation and have expressed concerns that there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Detective Edward Horton at (603) 931-0660 or via email at Edward.J.Horton@dos.nh.gov.
The New Hampshire ICAC Task Force remains committed to addressing and prosecuting internet crimes against children, and this case underscores the ongoing efforts to protect minors from online exploitation.
