KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Winchester man faces multiple felony charges after police say he fled a traffic stop in Antrim early Monday morning and later crashed head-on into a Hillsboro police cruiser.

Antrim police said officers were patrolling downtown at about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 5 when they spotted a black 2020 Nissan Rogue traveling north on Elm Avenue at a high rate of speed. Officers stopped the vehicle and, during their interaction with the driver, reported signs of possible alcohol impairment and an open container of alcohol in the center console.

Police said the driver, identified as 36-year-old David Bennett of Winchester, refused to get out of the vehicle after being told he was under arrest. Bennett then allegedly drove away, prompting Antrim officers to pursue the Nissan.

Hillsboro police later located the vehicle on Old Milk Road in Antrim and attempted to stop it. According to police, the Nissan accelerated toward a Hillsboro cruiser and struck it head-on.

The collision damaged both vehicles and injured the Hillsboro officers. Police said Bennett then drove around the cruiser, turned off the Nissan’s lights and continued onto Turner Hill Road.

At the end of Turner Hill Road, the Hillsboro officers involved in the crash were able to stop the Nissan in a high-risk traffic stop. Antrim officers arrived and assisted in taking Bennett into custody.

Antrim Ambulance personnel evaluated those involved in the crash for injuries.

Bennett was charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated DWI, two counts of second-degree assault, conduct after an accident involving personal injury, two counts of disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, falsifying physical evidence, criminal mischief, failure to keep right of center, two counts of transporting alcohol or marijuana, and possession of marijuana.

Several of the charges are classified as Class B felonies.

Bennett was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in the 6th Circuit Court — District Division — Hillsborough.

The Antrim Police Department thanked Antrim Fire & Ambulance, the Hillsboro Police Department and the Henniker Police Department for assisting with the incident.
