WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – One man is in custody after leading police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon New Hampshire State Police Troopers located a 2023 Kia Forte on Route 10 in Swanzey that had been reported stolen to the Winchester Police Department earlier in the day.

According to a news release from New Hampshire State Police, Troopers attempted to stop the Kia near Whittemore Farm Road, but the driver, identified as Demetrius Dargan, 33, of Winchester did not stop and a pursuit ensued.

Dargan continued south on Route 10 and the Winchester Police Department successfully deployed a tire deflation device which slowed the car before officers were able to deploy a second device as the pursuit continued into Winchester. The pursuit slowed to speeds less than 30 miles per hour before the vehicle eventually couldn’t continue.

Dargan was arrested and is facing felony charges of receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle, reckless conduct, and operating as a habitual offender. He’s also facing misdemeanor charges of disobeying an officer and reckless conduct.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact Trooper James Lamoureux at 603-223-3782, or at James.D.Lamoureux@dos.nh.gov.
