WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – Winchester’s Town Clerk pleaded guilty to charges alleging he signed a marriage license for a ceremony he did not perform.

According to a news release from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office issued on April 3rd, James Tetreault, 60, was arrested and charged with one class B felony count of Vital Records Fraud and one Class A misdemeanor count of Notarial Misconduct.

In an updated release on Thursday the AG’S office said that Tetreault, also a justice of the peace, admitted to signing a marriage license falsely stating that he had performed a marriage between Wendy Leedberg-Snow and Eric Leedberg on September 14, 2023. He also admitted that he did not officiate or attend the wedding on that or any other date.

As part of a plea agreement, the felony charge was dropped and Tetreault received a 90-day suspended sentence, contingent on two years of good behavior, and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus a $240 penalty assessment. He resigned from his roles as justice of the peace and from his position as bail commissioner and agreed not to seek reappointment for two years.
