KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) City officials have announced a temporary winter weather parking ban in Keene ahead of expected snow-removal operations this weekend, urging motorists to plan ahead to avoid tickets or towing.
According to the city’s Public Works Department, restrictions will begin at noon on Saturday, Jan. 17, when vehicles will no longer be allowed to park on city streets. Later that night, at 11 p.m., the ban will broaden to include metered and kiosk-controlled parking spaces in addition to on-street parking.
The parking ban is scheduled to remain in place overnight and will be lifted at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.
To accommodate residents and visitors during the ban, several municipal parking lots will be available for overnight use. City officials said the Gilbo East and Elm Street parking lots will remain open throughout the night. Standard parking fees still apply in city lots between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, meaning drivers using those lots during daytime hours must pay the usual rates until fees end at 5 p.m.
Other public parking lots will also be available as alternative options, though drivers are reminded to read posted signs carefully. Some spaces may be reserved, and improperly parked vehicles could be ticketed or towed.
The city noted that overnight parking availability in municipal lots rotates during winter storms to allow crews to clear snow efficiently. Motorists are encouraged to check current restrictions before leaving their vehicles.
Residents can find detailed information about winter parking rules, snow removal operations, and a map of public parking lots at KeeneNH.gov/snow. The city also encourages people to sign up for text message alerts to receive advance notice of future parking bans.
When winter weather parking bans are declared, the city shares updates through multiple channels, including email and text alerts, social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, the city’s website, and digital signage placed around Keene.
