KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) WKNE-FM is rallying the region this weekend with a one-day food drive to help stock The Community Kitchen’s shelves ahead of the winter season. The station will broadcast live from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at three Monadnock Region grocery stores.

Listeners and shoppers can drop off donations at Hannaford on West Street in Keene, the Monadnock Food Co-op on Cypress Street downtown, and Market Basket on Route 10 in Swanzey. Each location will have a collection bin for nonperishable food and monetary contributions.

The Fenton Family Dealerships will shuttle all donated items to The Community Kitchen that same day and will also match cash donations dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000.

Organizers say a wide range of pantry staples are needed, including sliced bread, gluten-free bread and pasta, gluten-free snacks, shelf-stable milks, dry soups, canned tuna and chicken, canned fruit, cooking oil, and cereal. Items for the children’s pantry — such as canned meals with pop-top lids, shelf-stable yogurt, peanut butter crackers, snacks, 100% juice boxes, cereal bars, and cereal cups — are also in high demand.

Those who can’t participate in person can contribute online through The Community Kitchen’s donation portal.
