KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) The owner of a downtown breakfast café that abruptly closed this week says some customers will be able to get their money back for recently purchased gift cards.
Yellow Bell Café at 45 Main St. shut down immediately earlier this week, with owner Adam Berube announcing the decision in a message to customers on social media. In that post, Berube said the closure was made “with a heavy heart” and thanked the Keene community for its support over the past year.
The café opened in March 2025 in the former Yahso Jamaican Grille space and built a following for its brunch-focused menu.
Following the closure, Berube said customers who purchased gift cards at the restaurant within the past month can request a refund by emailing info@yellowbellkeene.com for assistance.
However, vouchers purchased through Monadnock Media Group’s Save Local Deals program cannot be refunded directly by the restaurant. Yellow Bell Café vouchers were offered periodically through that promotion between October and January. Customers who bought those vouchers must submit exchange requests through the Save Local Deals website, which manages the third-party sales.
Yellow Bell’s closure comes less than a year after Berube shut down Fireworks Restaurant, an Italian-inspired Main Street establishment that had operated for nearly 14 years. Berube had purchased Fireworks in 2022 after previously working there and later cited ongoing economic pressures when announcing its closure in September 2025. He also previously operated Muse Bistro, another downtown restaurant that has since closed.
In his farewell message, Berube encouraged residents to keep supporting other local businesses downtown.
“As our chapter comes to an end, we ask that you please continue to support your local downtown businesses,” he wrote. “They need you now more than ever.”
