Christine Allen, former executive director of Keene-based Monadnock Peer Support (MPS), faces federal charges for allegedly embezzling nearly $200,000 from the mental health nonprofit. The indictment claims Allen, 50, misused MPS funds between 2021 and 2023 for personal expenses, including Amazon orders, home renovations, and recreational equipment. Charged with four counts of wire fraud, Allen could face up to 20 years in prison per count if convicted. The investigation was conducted by the FBI and IRS.

A Putney man, Zachary Goldberg, 42, was arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm and using abusive language in a Vinegar Lane altercation. Charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and a hate crime, Goldberg is set to appear in Vermont Superior Court on November 4.

A man, identified as Shane Eskra of Brattleboro, was arrested after a multi-state incident involving gunfire early this morning. The Brattleboro Police Department initially responded to a report of shots fired on Garfield Drive. Later, Eskra was spotted in Hinsdale, brandishing a handgun before fleeing back to Vermont. A standoff ensued on Mount Wantastiquet, where Eskra fired several rounds at officers. He was eventually apprehended with the help of a New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit. Eskra faces multiple charges, including reckless conduct and criminal threatening.

The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to combat child exploitation and abuse.
