KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Residents in several Keene neighborhoods will wake up to road crews and detours Friday morning as the city launches its annual road rehabilitation program, aimed at refreshing pavement across a wide swath of streets.

The project, which starts April 18, is set to unfold over the next few weeks, weather permitting. Crews will begin by grinding down existing pavement surfaces before moving on to deeper repairs, utility structure adjustments, and eventually layering new asphalt. City officials say the goal is to enhance safety and durability on well-traveled residential streets.

Friday’s work is slated to begin on Bank Street, Thornton Way, and Warren Street, with more streets added in the coming days and weeks. On April 23, Stanhope Avenue is scheduled, followed by Cedar, Cone, and Needle Streets on April 24.

The remainder of the project will stretch into May and possibly June, with tentative plans to repave Hamden Drive, Robbins Road, Queens Road, and portions of Winchester Street, among others. Specific dates for those streets are still to be determined.

Daily road closures are expected between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will reopen roads at the end of each workday, but drivers should expect uneven pavement and potential driveway access restrictions during active construction hours.

City officials are urging drivers to slow down, heed signage and flaggers, and be cautious around raised utility structures and construction crews.

More detailed updates will be posted by the city as the work progresses.
