KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Phil Taub, co-founder of Swim With A Mission (SWAM), joined Dan Mitchell Tuesday on Good Morning with Dan Mitchell on WKBK Radio to spotlight SWAM’s continued efforts to support veterans across New Hampshire. During the segment, Taub outlined the organization’s mission, its upcoming summer events, and the critical needs of the veteran community.
Founded in 2017, SWAM (www.swam.org) has raised significant funds for nearly 20 different veteran service organizations throughout the state, working to fill critical gaps in care.
Taub said the organization’s top priority right now is getting service dogs to veterans who need them, noting long waitlists that SWAM is actively working to clear. The organization also supports a range of services, including art and equine therapy, and shelters for homeless veterans.
Taub shared sobering statistics, revealing that since 9/11, New Hampshire has lost 96 service members in combat—but more than 900 veterans in the state have died by suicide during the same period. The suicide rate among female veterans is rising even faster, he added, emphasizing the urgency behind SWAM’s mission.
Taub also previewed three major upcoming fundraising events designed to engage the public while raising support for veterans:
-
Green Beret Challenge (June 28): A rigorous, three-hour team-building course led by U.S. Army Special Forces. Teams of 10 will navigate physical and mental obstacles, each coached by their own Green Beret. Twenty team spots are available, and registration remains open.
-
Paintball with a Mission (July 11): A leadership and team-building event featuring Navy SEALs—many from SEAL Team Six. Nearly sold out, the event has earned national recognition as America’s most successful paintball fundraiser.
-
Swim With A Mission (July 12): The flagship event that started it all. Taking place at Newfound Lake, it features multiple swim distances (10K, 5K, 1K, and relay options). The event is currently seeking around 200 volunteers, especially kayakers and paddleboarders to support the swimmers.
