KEENE/SWANZEY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Emergency crews responded to two separate incidents Monday morning, including a serious crash on Route 12 in Swanzey and a small aircraft emergency landing at Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport.

At approximately 9:05 a.m., Swanzey Fire Department and Cheshire County EMS were dispatched to a head-on crash involving a sedan and a dump truck near Arrowcrest Drive, close to Twinkletown Mini Golf. Cheshire County EMS arrived first and began treating both patients. The car’s driver suffered the more serious injuries and was treated in the ambulance before being transferred to a medical helicopter. The second individual was evaluated on scene and later chose to go to the hospital for further assessment.

The dump truck sustained a ruptured saddle tank, spilling roughly 30 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway. Swanzey firefighters applied a large quantity of drying agent. A landing zone was established at the nearby Cheshire Fairgrounds, where UMASS Air Ambulance landed at 9:39 a.m. and departed for the hospital just after 10 a.m. after transferring the patient. Both vehicles were recovered from the scene, and a fresh layer of absorbent was placed on the roadway before crews cleared the scene without further incident. Route 12 was temporarily closed at Safford Drive during the response.

Shortly before 10 a.m., a second emergency unfolded at Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport, where a gyrocopter—a small, lightweight aircraft with characteristics of both airplanes and helicopters—landed short of Runway 14. The pilot, who was the only occupant, was uninjured and evaluated by EMS personnel on scene. The airport’s main runway remained open during the incident, although the crosswind runway was temporarily closed.

Both the crash and the gyrocopter incident remain under investigation. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
