WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Winchester man was hospitalized Sunday evening after crashing his trail bike behind a residence on Elm Street, according to a press release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Jacob Rogers, 32, was riding a registered off-highway recreational vehicle (OHRV) around 8:15 p.m. on June 29 when he lost control of the bike while accelerating in soft dirt and crashed. Fish and Game officials said Rogers sustained a serious lower-leg injury and was helped back to the residence on an ATV. About 45 minutes later, someone called 911, and Winchester EMS transported him to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

A New Hampshire Conservation Officer responded to the scene to interview witnesses, then followed up with Rogers at the hospital. According to the department’s report, Rogers was issued a violation summons for operating an OHRV while his driver’s license was suspended.

Investigators believe mechanical problems and excessive speed for the trail conditions likely contributed to the crash. Winchester Police and New Hampshire State Police also assisted in the investigation.

In its statement, Fish and Game reminded riders to operate OHRVs in a reasonable and prudent manner, keeping speed under control for current trail conditions and potential hazards.
