KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Keene residents affected by this week’s water main break can pick up free bottled water today, thanks to a donation from C&S Wholesale Grocers. The city is distributing 24-packs—one per household—at the Public Works facility on Marlboro Street now through 6 p.m. today.

The giveaway comes as much of the city continues to operate under a boil-water advisory, following a major water main rupture Wednesday evening near the intersection of Water and Grove Streets. The break triggered a significant drop in water pressure throughout central Keene and extending as far as North Swanzey.

City staff report that approximately 90 percent of the original supply of 24-packs—donated by C&S Wholesale Grocers—has already been distributed. However, more pallets are expected to arrive this afternoon, ensuring additional supplies are available for those who have not yet picked up water.

Public Works crews, praised for their dedication, will stay late to help residents access the bottled water. While there is no delivery service available, officials urge residents to assist neighbors who may be unable to get to the pickup site themselves.

City crews completed repairs Thursday morning and have since restored water pressure across the system. Initial water quality samples have been taken, but officials say a second round is required by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services before the advisory can be lifted. As a result, the boil order is expected to remain in place until at least midday Saturday.

While some Keene businesses have remained open, residents are encouraged to confirm operating status before heading out. Ongoing updates and guidance are being posted to KeeneNH.gov.
