KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Kids who enjoy solving mysteries and exploring the past can still sign up for History Detective Camp, a hands-on summer program for students entering grades 3 through 5 hosted by the Historical Society of Cheshire County. The second and final session runs Aug. 4 through 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Campers will dive into a real 19th-century bank heist — the 1864 robbery of the Savings Bank of Walpole — as junior detectives trained in historical investigation techniques. Activities include analyzing artifacts, reading primary documents, mapping clues, and interviewing costumed “witnesses.”
Throughout the week, students will participate in walking tours and field trips to the Wyman Tavern, the Historical Society of Cheshire County, and the Savings Bank of Walpole. They’ll work in teams to follow leads and build case files as they try to uncover the fate of thief Max Shinburn’s missing safe-cracking tools.
The program combines reading, experiments, and group projects in the morning, with immersive mystery-solving in the afternoon. Comfortable shoes, lunch, snacks, and water bottles are recommended.
Space is limited to one session per child. For more information, email: lifelonglearning@keene.edu; enroll by clicking here:
