SURRY, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A fire that erupted late Monday morning at a Pond Road automotive workshop left one person seriously burned and required a two-alarm response due to limited access to water, officials said.

Emergency crews were called to 171 Pond Road just before 11:30 a.m. for a report of a building fire with a person on-site suffering from serious burns. When firefighters arrived, they found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames, with heavy fire threatening nearby vehicles and structures.

The injured person was taken by ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene. From there, they were flown by DHART helicopter to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

Surry Fire Chief Josh Brooks said the metal garage, which housed a one-ton dump truck and other equipment, was a total loss. The fire also damaged another dump truck parked nearby, though that vehicle may be salvageable, he added.

The blaze escalated to a second alarm due to the lack of a nearby water supply. Tanker trucks were brought in from surrounding towns, including Keene, Alstead, and Walpole, to help extinguish the flames.

Brooks said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
