WALPOLE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A Leominster, MA man was taken to a Vermont hospital Wednesday morning after a head-on collision on Route 12, according to Walpole Police Chief Justin Sanctuary.
Sanctuary said the crash occurred around 9:05 a.m. when a 2015 GMC Acadia driven by Orion Papapietro-Redfield, 34, of Walpole, crossed the center line on a curve and struck a northbound 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt head-on.
The driver of the Cobalt, Glenkelly Winchell, 66, was transported by ambulance to Springfield Hospital in Vermont for treatment of injuries. Papapietro-Redfield refused medical attention at the scene.
According to Chief Sanctuary, there was no suspicion of drugs or alcohol, and fatigue may have been a factor in the crash. Both vehicles’ airbags deployed, and the cars sustained significant damage before being towed from the scene.
Route 12 was reduced to one lane of traffic for about 45 minutes as emergency crews worked to clear the roadway. The road reopened around 9:45 a.m.
