KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) – A valve failure during planned water main work in downtown Keene has resulted in a larger-than-expected temporary water service shutdown.
Crews were scheduled Thursday, October 1, to connect the new water main in Central Square to the existing main on West Street. The work was expected to require a temporary water shutdown affecting select buildings on West Street and within Central Square. The City had previously notified affected property owners, building managers and tenants of the planned work.
During the shutdown Thursday, a required valve failed while crews were operating it. As a result, the service shutdown has expanded beyond what was originally anticipated.
The City says customers on the northern end of Main Street may experience a loss of water pressure as crews work to address the issue.
City officials say they are working to resolve the problem and will provide additional information as the situation becomes clearer.
