RINDGE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A serious two-vehicle crash shut down a stretch of Route 119 near Wellington Road on Wednesday afternoon and left both drivers with life-threatening injuries, according to Rindge authorities.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at 2:46 p.m. after a westbound Toyota struck a Jeep that had just entered Route 119 from Converseville Road. The impact caused the Jeep to roll over, while the Toyota slid down an embankment.
Firefighters worked to free the Jeep’s driver, who was trapped inside. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
Due to the severity of the injuries, two medical helicopters were summoned. One landed at the Cathedral of the Pines and the other at Christian Outreach Church, where crews met ambulances for transport. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and later removed from the scene by Gauthier’s Auto Service of Jaffrey.
The crash closed Route 119 to through-traffic for nearly two hours while first responders from Rindge, Jaffrey, Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department, New Hampshire DOT, and several Massachusetts agencies assisted.
Names of those involved have not been released. The Rindge Police Department is continuing to investigate and is asking any witnesses to contact Detective Chris Martin at 603-899-5009 ext. 40 or Chief Rachel Malynowski at ext. 15.
