WINCHESTER, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) A mail truck driver was taken to Cheshire Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon after a dump truck rear-ended the stopped postal vehicle on Route 10 near Monadnock Speedway, according to Winchester Police Chief Dave Rice.

Rice said the crash happened around 2 p.m. when the northbound mail carrier stopped to make a left turn into a driveway on Keene Road. A dump truck traveling behind the postal vehicle failed to stop and struck it from behind.

The postal driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by Winchester Ambulance. The dump truck driver was not injured, Rice said.

Both vehicles were towed, and the mail truck was “destroyed,” according to Rice. The mail was transported to the Winchester Post Office.

N.H. State Police — which handle crashes involving commercial vehicles — is investigating. The agency did not immediately release additional information, and police did not have the names of those involved or the name of the dump truck’s owner.

Route 10 was reduced to one lane following the collision but had fully reopened by 4:30 p.m.
