KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Motorists and pedestrians in several areas of Keene should expect traffic impacts this week and beyond as the city moves forward with infrastructure testing and stormwater system improvements, according to the Keene Public Works Department.
On Wednesday, Jan. 14, contractors will conduct test borings near 649 Court St., just north of Cheshire Medical Center. Work is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue throughout the day. During that time, traffic in the area will be reduced to a single lane with alternating one-way flow. Traffic control personnel will be on site, and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
In addition, longer-term construction is underway as part of the City of Keene’s Stormwater Collection System Rehabilitation Program. Vortex Services Inc. began cleaning and installing liners in existing stormwater mains on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The work is expected to last approximately two months.
Affected locations include Emerald Street, Dale Drive, Maple Avenue, and areas near the Keene Middle School access road and athletic fields. Residents and visitors may experience temporary lane and sidewalk closures, along with minor disruptions to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
All construction zones will be clearly marked and barricaded. City officials are asking the public to follow posted signage and directions from traffic control personnel while crews are working.
Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Keene Public Works at 352-6550.
