KEENE, N.H. (MyKeeneNow) Yellow Bell Café has shut its doors effective immediately, marking the third downtown closure for owner Adam Berube in less than a year.
In a message shared on Facebook, Berube said the decision was made “with a heavy heart,” thanking customers for filling the café with “laughter, warmth, and community” over the past year.
“To the wonderful people of Keene, thank you,” he wrote. “You filled our dining room with laughter, warmth, and community, and we are so grateful for that.”
The breakfast and brunch spot, located at 45 Main St. in the former Yahso Jamaican Grille space, opened in March 2025. It quickly became known for its bright, cozy interior and an elevated take on morning favorites, from huevos rancheros and smoked salmon scrambles to banana bread French toast and gourmet doughnuts.
At the time of its opening, Yellow Bell was described as a “love letter to breakfast,” inspired by Berube’s childhood memories of homemade family meals. The café aimed to blend comfort and creativity, offering both classic farmer’s breakfasts and inventive dishes like breakfast poutine and specialty sourdough toasts.
The closure follows the September 2025 shutdown of Fireworks Restaurant, Berube’s Italian-inspired Main Street restaurant that operated for nearly 14 years. Berube had purchased Fireworks in 2022 after previously working there for several years, reopening it with a promise to restore its familiar menu and longtime staff. He cited ongoing economic challenges when announcing that closure.
Berube also previously operated Muse Bistro, another downtown establishment that has since closed.
In his statement about Yellow Bell, Berube encouraged residents to continue supporting other downtown businesses.
“As our chapter comes to an end, we ask that you please continue to support your local downtown businesses,” he wrote. “They need you now more than ever. Your support truly makes all the difference.”
